Hiking Helps




HIKING PACKING LIST

Not an exhaustive list, but covers the basics. Obviously, when weather changes, adjust the list accordingly to add layers for warmth, such as jackets, headband, hat, gloves, extra socks, etc.

Short Hike:  (4 miles or less/low elevation)
(put on sunscreen/bug spray as needed before the hike, wear or bring a light jacket if needed, wear a hat)

o  day pack or fanny pack
o  water – 1 liter
o  snack
o  first aid/hygiene supplies (usually just a few bandaids, sanitizer, Kleenex/t.p., Ziploc bag)
o  sunglasses
o  chapstick
o  cell phone
o  map

Intermediate  Hike: (5-7 miles, higher elevation)
(put on sunscreen/bug spray as needed before the hike, wear or bring a light jacket if needed, wear a hat)

o  backpack/Camelbak
o  water – 2 liters
o  lunch, snacks
o  first aid kit
o  hygiene supplies (t.p., wipes, sanitizer, Ziploc bag)
o  sunglasses
o  chapstick
o  sunscreen and bug spray
o  light jacket
o  rain poncho
o  cell phone
o  map
o  flashlight/head lamp
o  whistle
o  waterproof matches

Long Hike: (7+ miles, high elevation)
All of the above, plus these extras:

o  water filter
o  compass
o  pocket knife
o  emergency blanket
o  hiking poles (optional)
